I'm a Proud Mommy :)

Sometimes Lydia surprises me with her sweetness! Today I took her to McDonald's for ice cream and to play, and there was a young girl with two boys there. One of the little boys (6 years old) was autistic, and seemed to have some sensory issues - I have no idea the extent or even the correct words to use to describe him. (I am eternally grateful that I do not have to deal with this :( )

Anyway, Lydia just took to him! She stayed right by him, playing and talking. At one point, they even sat at a table together, and she just chattered away and they played some kind of game with their hands. The little boy didn't speak - he made noises, but that's about it. But he was very sweet to Lydia, he hugged her and kissed her cheek.

When they were leaving, Lydia came over to me and said, "He's a big boy! Well, he's a little boy too. He's a big boy AND a little boy." And then she ran over to him to say good-bye.

It's amazing how children see things so clearly sometimes :)

My four year old daughter also has a good friend who is a boy, 6, and autistic. They seem to bring out the best in each other. It is interesting like you said how the kids just don't seem to notice or if they do it just does not matter.
